San Francisco Nike Women's Marathon 10/18/09

Nike San Francisco Women's Marathon
October 18, 2009
Finish Time: 4:58:45
Course Map
We Did It!

This was the first.... the start of it all!!! We had never run a marathon before but we were determined to get the Tiffany necklaces and conquer 26.2 miles together for the first time.

Sisters Top 5:

1. A Tiffany necklace is the finishers medal
2. It's a race promoted for women which is always fun because there were tons of inspirational signs just for women.
3. Great sponsors throughout the weekend at expo and race... Luna bars along the course & Ghiradelli chocolate at mile 21.
4. It's a Nike race so they have great shirts, sweatshirts, plenty of cute race apparel to buy!
5. A fun and beautiful run throughout San Francisco with wonderful spectator support- Miles 1-2 are along the Pier, you run through Golden gate Park, etc.

Finish line includes both sides lined with firefighters wearing tuxedos carrying silver platters lined with Tiffany boxes holding our medals- um yes we will run 26.2 miles for that!!

Sisters Bottom 5:

1. The race is point to point so you have to take a bus back to the start- which has a VERY long line.
2. The last 10 miles are on the great highway which runs along the pacific coast. Although it is beautiful, the road itself is full of potholes and uneven footing areas. People were literally tripping at the finish line.
3. At mile 16 for the marathoners, right when the full marathoners and half marathoners split at the course (for the second and final time) you can see and hear the half marathoners near the finish line- major tease!
4. There are only two real spots where spectators who are not from SF can cheer you on. If you have a spectator riding the spectator bus, they can see you at miles 4, 8 and 11, which is too early in the race. Mile 18 is when you REALLY need them.
5.  It is a fun BIG race so it can get tight at times and very packed. Fun if you like big crowded races but definitely not a race for a PR.
Post Race Shopping! Still smiling (sort of)

* I know you all thought we would say the SF hills were a downer, but they weren't. They were there, but not too bad and actually pretty fun!*
